Our Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) provides thorough assessment and treatment for recent minor eye issues. This NHS-supported service is delivered by our accredited optometrists, ensuring you receive expert care promptly.

What Can MECS Help With?

You can seek help through MECS if you’re experiencing any of the following:

  • Red, inflamed eyes or eye pain
  • Dry, gritty, or uncomfortable eyes
  • Eye irritation or inflammation
  • Significant discharge or watery eyes
  • Recent onset of flashes or floaters
  • Ingrowing eyelashes
  • Sudden vision loss
  • Foreign object in the eye

Who Can Use This Service?

MECS is accessible to individuals of all ages. 

For patients under 16, an adult must accompany them. You do not need a referral from a GP to access this service.

Booking an Appointment

To book an appointment for MECS at K S Opticians, follow these steps:

  1. Self-Referral: Contact our practice directly by phone to book your appointment. Walk-ins without an appointment are not accepted.
  2. Symptom Discussion: When you call, our staff will inquire about your symptoms to determine the urgency of your situation.
  3. Appointment Arrangement: Based on your symptoms, we will schedule you for a consultation, which may occur within 24 hours or within a few working days. 
  4. Pharmacy Advice: For milder symptoms, you may be directed to your local pharmacy for over-the-counter treatment options.

Our appointments are available during regular working hours, with some options for evening and weekend slots.
